I originally started to post this to that thread, but it got a bit big, and I assume that the above thread will be locked or deleted soon.
Players in many countries, including ones where GameForge operates a metin2 localization, are having trouble connecting to SG. Not sure about US, the people I know that live in the US and play metin don't care about SG

Any US people want to try logging into the SG server?
This inability to connect from specific countries simply cannot happen by accident; the internet does not work that way. If routes were dropped (they aren't, you can still load the SG site which is in the same block & subnet) they would be dynamically rerouted.
It is somewhat easy to block a country (I could decide I hate polish people and block most of them from loading liquiron by adding an some iptables rules to this server's config), but it has to be done deliberately.
Why would there be a geographical block?Anti-competitive practices by other metin2 publishers possibly. This is the reason that was thrown around before and put to rest mostly when everyone could connect to SEA - if only for a day or two. But now that some countries are blocked whilst others are not, this will pick right up.
If Gameforge or G4BOX did do this then that is an enormous dick move for them to do so. Instead they should focus on improving their own servers to keep their players (Gameforge has ALOT to do in this department)
Then again it could be a sole agreement between Tec and YMIR, and for whatever reason (embarrassment,
NDA) Tec can't or won't say. Metin2 US admins stated they haven't complained to YMIR about an country block (though [GM]Giada made a quite strange cryptic post) aftertall. Haven't seen any official response from Gameforge about country blocks for SG.
