Recently as part of their
addition of the water dragon to Watery Cavern, the
Metin2 US server had its watery cavern (also known as the grotto of exile) updated. This included newer EXP rates that better reflect the difficulty of fighting the Mercenary enemies, and a new statistic that was strong against them: Vs Devil.
This change was welcomed favorably by players, and caused a boom in item mall usage and trading, as hardcore PVM players sought to get sets of gear with the vs Devil stat.
However, today, after what was at first a seemingly routine maintenance (Metin2 US restarts its servers every week), watery cavern was changed again. Now the mercenaries offer pitiful experience, Devil is a useless stat against them, and sword resistance is no longer any use in trying to defend oneself against generals.
As could be expected, the reaction to this change is universally negative among players. Most of the complaints are contained in these two threads:

[2]. Most view this as unfair, as a number of players made significant EXP progress during the period of new EXP rates and vs devil effectiveness. Others had spent hundreds of thousands in Z8Games mall points on items, even changing stats of Vs Demi-Human items in the hopes of getting Vs Devil. Others sold Demi-Human items or spent large sums of gold on Devil items, which are now useless.
The EXP improvements and fixing of the vs Devil stat had brought a number of players back to
Metin2 US, something the server needed to stem its steady loss of players for other reasons. This change has already caused some to leave again. Arguably the right thing to do at this point for
Z8Games would be to revert the change before the backlash grows too strong.
