Since
Metin2 SG's launch, TEC-Interactive has had the problem of being bound by its contract into enforcing an IP block. This has contributed significantly to the low player count of the server. Since the start however, resourceful players in blocked countries have found ways to play via proxies. Over time these methods have become more sophisticated, with Antiblock Version 2, now 3 months old, being the most used. Now a new version is out, created by a different player.
To use this new version, players simply place the files in their Metin2 SG installation folder (so that "Metin2.bat" from the pack is in the same place as SG's Metin2.exe), overwriting any files in the process. Players then start the game with the Metin2.bat file, not via Metin2.exe (more on this below).
Previous methods of bypassing the IP block have worked in a more traditional sense - they have left the game installation itself alone, and simply used regular bundled software to both establish a connection to a proxy server, and then "catch" connections from the Metin2 SG client and route them through the proxy. This is how both Antiblock 1 & 2 operated.
This new version (confusingly dubbed as a duplicate version 2 by the staff) works instead by modifying the game client itself. Each Metin2 game client stores amongst its data the IP addresses for the servers that it can connect to. The scripts that hold this information are contained in the game's "pack" files. All that is required for this new Antiblock is to simply replace the original pack file with a modified one.
Interestingly enough,
Metin2 SG's game servers themselves do not block any IPs. Only the server that handles logging in does. If you think about it, this makes sense. You cannot enter the game world without having a character to enter with, and you cannot access a character without logging in and authenticating it. Thus,
Metin2 SG's IP block check only occurs on the auth server.
When using this new Antiblock, this fact is taken advantage of. You are "Antiblocked" for logging in and authentication, but once that is done, you are connected directly to Metin2 SG's game servers.

Left, Proxy IP for authentication. Right, Example after logging in, directly connected to a TEC-Interactive IP
This of course has the bonus of reduced lag, since once you are in-game with your player, you are no longer relying on a proxy server to relay everything back and forth between you and the SG game servers. In our testing (connecting from the UK and North America), the lag was as would be expected when connecting directly to an average location all the way over in Singapore.
A downside to this method is that, due to the fact that this version modifies the client, the game's auto patcher will pick up on the changed files, assume that they are corrupt, and download new copies. This will of course mean that you will end up connecting directly to the real auth server on starting the game, and thus be blocked as normal.
Another possible downside is the apparent thin line that TEC-Interactive is walking. In the official download of
Metin2 SG's client, the team had actually begun to bundle the old Antiblock Version 2 right with the client installer. With the recent announcement of this new antiblock, it seems likely that the team will bundle this with the client also. Metin2 SG's staff are bound by their contract to block IPs from countries that already have a pre-established Metin2 server, and bundling tools to nullify this block with the official installer seems to be an action in the grey area.
The ultimate change would be to simply replace the current "official" pack files (that lead players to the IP block) with the edited ones that authenticate through a proxy. This would let players start and patch the game like any other server, and players from blocked countries might not even know that they were playing on a server that is supposed to block them. This would likely draw ire from YMIR or other publishers however.
For now, players should enjoy the new Antiblock and playing with less lag! Now is as good a time as ever to join
Metin2 SG, what with new accounts getting bonus EXP and this summer being a summer of EXP for the server
As the official Antiblock download is on Rapidshare, which is horrible, we have mirrored it. Again, here is the link:

Sorry for off topic, but wasnt rophe in france as he claimed to be lol (justifying his uk ip from the cable that were connect to uk), and unless yuki n is still one of the ppls who log this account (even if he said he quitted), didnt ladymac said that will never log on sea until ip block was lifted?
Clap clap for the coherency lol
this is great news but no offense here..thats a hell of alot to do just to get on the server. there is no simpiler way of doing this?
Actually the antiblock directly launches the metin2 bin, so no patcher is involved in the starting process. You can modify the serverinfo.py, re-pack it, then launch with the batch file if you don't want an update...which is what nico has done here. It's cool to see elitepvpers team up with metin2SG though lol
. Nico_w has contributed alot to that community, hacks aren't the only thing on that site
.
I've always wondered why SG was blocking IP addresses and at the same time supplying the bypass o0...Makes no sense and I really don't see how they can get away with that. Also this whole "they have to block the IP's from countries who already host an official server" crap is kind of stupid. That mind of thought is why some Canadians sit on their ass while other Canadians are working hard to pay someone else's bills for them, to make it short.
Yes, this is why this is said -
Then you referred later on to the new version saying this:
So you see what I'm saying now
?
looks nice i will try it hope will work
i am a Warrioi with level 80 for server Pegasus,my character name is KillaNerd,i have good equipment, you can come to me to play.
Antiblock isnt necessary anymore, just download the new client from metin2sg page and go
Did I miss the announcement where the IP block had been removed? =o
. Thanks
IP Block isnt removed.
The Client just bypasses the IP Block directly, so you can play like there is no Ip Block anymore.
Now we can forget about that IP Block Topic and have fun.
Is that legal? o0
I mean it's one thing if the players find a way to work around an IP block. But for the publisher who was made to enforce the IP block to now work around it.. =x
In my country is legal to smoke weed but its illegal to sell it to ppls. Its really a paradox but well this is how the world works
well it's really the same thing actually because the sg site was giving away the bypasses the entire time o0.
wow lol....
I understand but what difference does it make what you would know if you didn't previously know? There are still players playing from ip blocked zones anyways regardless if they know a block exists they are still playing :S
It isn't really about what I know or don't know. YMIR has enforced an IP block on SG for whatever reason. (For the record, I think this is stupid). I thought they were walking a thin line by encouraging the use of the Anti-IP block before. If they include it, so that you can connect as if there is no IP block, then that completely negates the IP block, for all intents and purposes. This gets me for two reasons. First because I don't see how YMIR can be ok with this. If that is ok, then why not just do away with the IP block? I mean, at this point, it's serving no purpose whatsoever. And second, because Christopher started his server with, well what appeared to me to be high standards. He was going to shut down private servers. His server would be different, a place free from corruption, where you could simply enjoy the game. Maybe it is free from corruption, I have no idea because I don't play. But how can you take someone at their word when they decide to break one of the very rules they're forced to play by. Again, granted, a stupid rule, but still.
The example i told u (wich is true) about the weed in my country, is the same as the ip block. Ymir only enforced the ip block, but it never said nothing about working around it. Ymir was aware that players used software to log into the server and nothing was done, because it wasnt illegal.
From what i heard the contract says that there must be an ip block, it dosnt mention that foreign players cannot log. So the work around is allowed.
lol I understand what you're saying ladymac and I'm not trying to say you are wrong, or be arrogant, or try to make you upset.. All I'm saying is it's the same fine line you are talking about as before..They already included the block, but now it is just simpler.
Also about the contract saying it has to have an IP block, the purpose of the IP block is to block those countries so why wouldn't that part of the contract mean that a bypass would NOT allowed lol?!
Ymir doesn't want an IP block, it's Gameforge who sent their dogs, I mean their lawyers to call Ymir and impose this restriction as soon as they noticed the server had a massive attendance of europeans in its first day. At this point Gameforge doesn't care anymore that you can join SG, because most people lost confidence in the server after the incidents in first days which was their goal. I love how they fucked up everything and at the same time managed to have everyone blame TEC instead of the real culprit. GF can't manage a server properly if their lives depended on it, but they're very good at manipulating people.
The post is deleted now, but Chris admitted once the date that TEC signed the thing about the IP block. It was before the server's first day, so you are wrong.
Also, SG deliberately ran at the start without the IP block.

A Newer, Simpler Metin2 SG Antiblock
