Gameforge Test Server Round 2 - Dragon Lair Mechanics

Posted: January 13, 2011, 11:01:41 AM by Dweia

We can now post some more info about Gameforge's upcoming second beta test server, this time all about the mechanics of the new area, which will be unique to Gameforge servers. A few things specifically concerning the test server will also be changed from last time.

Dragon Lair Mechanics
As you should have guessed by now, the Dragon Lair is the name for the 3rd area of the Grotto Of Exile - known as Watery Cavern or Heaven's Lair on other publishers' servers.

Once player testers log in to their characters, they will find in the inventory some twisted keys (previously known as dragon god symbols). This is so that players won't have to bother farming for such symbols in order to enter the Grotto. As is on normal Gameforge servers, the Setaou Generals drop twisted keys.

Meet the Setaou General

Players will need these twisted keys in order to enter the final room where the dragon lives. Players of the previous test server might remember finding some NPC ghosts in the Grotto, and it is these ghosts that players must talk to in order to enter. They will only be able to face the dragon if they have enough twisted keys (amount currently unknown).

Here is where things get interesting. A player who talks to the ghost will be able to set a password. This password restricts access to the dragon room. This way, the leader who coughs up the twisted keys can choose who may join the fight against the dragon by sharing the password with them. This will stop kill stealing or unwanted PVP attempts. The players joining via a password also need twisted keys, and once the first player has entered and set a password, other players that know the password will have 5 minutes in which they can join.

By itself, such a system could possibly be open to abuse, but this is where another point comes in. Upon reserving the room, the group of players only has 1 hour to kill the dragon. After the time is up, they will be teleported out.

Much emphasis has been placed on the strength of the dragon itself. It may even rival that of the enormous level 75 red dragon. Because of this, it should be quite an accomplishment if a group of players manages to actually defeat it. So much so, that if this does happen, a notice will be broadcast through the whole server informing everyone. It will be worth it to defeat the dragon however, as some key items will be rewarded for doing so. More on this tomorrow! :)

Test Server Specific
While the intention of the previous test server was to test out hackshield and the 2nd floor of the Grotto, many players were more interested in PVP antics. This was partially solved on the first test server by moving players into one nation, but this still allowed players to have guild wars, of which there were many. This will be further solved in this new test server due to the fact that players will be restricted to certain maps.

Home sweet home.

Upon logging into the new test server, players will find themselves in the Orc Valley, also known as Nula Valley to players of other servers. From this valley they can of course enter the Grotto via the NPC in the south. A store keeper and saleswoman will be available outside the grotto as well as inside, meaning that there is no reason for players to visit their normal town. A side effect of this is that there will be no town guard, and thus no guilds. Coupled with every player being in the same nation, this only leaves dueling for a PVP aspect, one that shouldn't be too large.
