It appears that
Metin2 US' first server, known as Free Kingdom, is blocked or closed in regards to creating new characters. Attempts to create a character using any name results in the "name already taken" message.
It is unlikely that all possible names have actually been taken, even by bots. A player's maximum name length is 12 characters, and with the A-Z, 0-9 contents available, this allows for a quintillion (1,000,000,000,000,000,000!) different names. Even if 10 bots were created every second, that is still over 3 billion years required for all names to be filled. Also, deleting a character from an account and then attempting to immediately create a new character with that same name (which should now be free) presents the same message.
This obviously points to some other reason for the notice. The staff might have possibly disabled the creation of new characters on the server to hopefully starve the numbers of bots. As they ban bots, no new bots can replace them. This of course assumes that bot creators have not pre-emptively made new characters that are waiting to be used, so the problem might not immediately go away.
Another possibility is that of a bug, though it's something we've never heard of. Contacts who know more about Metin2 on the technical side have no explanation of how a bug could cause the issue, either.
If Z8Games has closed Free Kingdom's doors to new characters, it is bad form to give no warning or make no announcement about it. A possible scenario is that of a new player hoping to join friends on Free Kingdom, who creates his/her account and buys items from the item mall to help them self get started, only to then find that they cannot create a character.
